World AIDS Day in the countryside. Abstract Text:

World AIDS Day 1995 was more actively observed in the Philippines than in previous years, especially at the local level. Local government units commemorated the event with activities ranging from lecture series to civic parades. The Honorable Candelaria J. Viola Jr., mayor of Hinatuan, reported that the celebration helped the town's HIV / AIDS awareness campaign. Thousands of people attended the AIDS Awareness Symposium; Mayor Viola had tapped almost all sectors of the community, including the most influential and least visible one, the religious. The civic parade was the opening salvo for most local celebrations. Multisectoral networking was easier to achieve in the province and the small town than in the big city.
