The Employment Standards Amendment Act (2) [14 December 1990] Abstract Text:

This Canadian Act amends the Employment Standards Act to provide 17 weeks' parental leave for a female employee who becomes the natural mother of a child, a male employee who becomes the natural father of a child or assumes actual care and custody of his newborn child, or an employee of either sex who adopts a child. This leave is in addition to maternity leave and must be taken immediately after maternity leave, without a return to work, unless employer and employee agree otherwise. If it is not taken in addition to maternity leave, it can commence no later than the 1st anniversary date of the birth or adoption.
