The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore the perception of aging in community-dwelling adults in Seoul. Participants consisted of 15 men and 19 women and they ranged in age from 40 to 80 years. Interviews were recorded on tape. Each interview session took 1-1.5 h. Colaizzi's phenomenological method of analysis was used to identify common meanings of aging. Findings revealed seven categories of perception of aging: change of body, body management, aging perception, change of territory, direction of life, reformation of a relationship, and internal maturity. These descriptive data add to the knowledge base available to nurses providing geriatric nursing care.
