The Carcinoid Cancers represents less than 1% of the Pul- monary Primitive Cancers. The Typical Carcinoid (TC) is more central and less aggressive than Atypical Carcinoid (AC). Aim: Casuistic assessment in Department of Pneumology, CHVRPR, Vila Real. Measures and procedures: Retrospective analysis of the Pulmonary Primitive Cancers (TC, AC) followed in the Pneu- mological Oncology appointment, from January 2001 to December 2006, was pointed out. Demographic features, tobacco habits, Performance Status (PS), symptoms, cancer location, cancer stage, radiological and endoscope image, treatment and evolution were assessed. Results: Ten cases were observed, corresponding to 2.4% (10/420) of cancers in follow-up. 70% (7) were male, with mean ages of 69 years (Max.86: Min.48). Taking into account all the cases, 40% (4) were AC, 50% (5) were TC and one case couldn't be characterized. The active tobacco habits were pre- sent only in one case (10%). All the patients had PS1. 90% (9) had respiratory symptoms and none presented Carcinoid Syn- drome. The diagnostic procedure used was the Surgical Re- section in 80% (8) of the cases and the Bronchoscopy in 20% (2). Left side cancer localization is presented in 60% (6) of the cases. The bronchial obstruction by intrabronchical tu- mor occurred in 80% (8) of the patients and the Atelectasis in 50% (5). The entire TC had central localization conditioning atelectasis and 50% (2) of AC didn't show changes in bron- choscopy. All cases showed the limited disease to diagnosis (IA-3; IB-5 e IIB-2). The surgical treatment was used in 80% (8) of patients, combined with quimiotherapy in 50% (in the 4 AC cases). During the considered period occurred one dea- th (10%), by progression disease (AC). Comments: we should point out the prevalence of male gender in our sample, a higher mean age and the systematic central localization of the TC. The recent follow-up of the sample didn't allow the correct calculation of survival. Key-words: Lung cancer, carcinoid.
