Experimental treatments can play an important role in developing effective therapies for treating HIV. A contact list is provided for some of the leading organizations that track the use of non-standard treatments. Expanded access programs for experimental new drugs and Phase I and II clinical trials are described, with information on enrollment procedures. Patients need to be aware that although the new drugs they are receiving may help them greatly, the drugs are still experimental and may have unpleasant or damaging side effects.
