Protocol for Acid Washing of Glass Pipettes


1. Place the glass pipettes in a 100 ml measuring cylinder containing Sulfuric Acid:Nitric Acid

2. Soak overnight in a fume hood.

3. Pour the acid mixture into another cylinder for reuse.

4.Wash the glass pipettes at least ten times with an excess of ddH2O, followed by three washes with Travenol H2O. Drain well.

5. Cover the cylinder with parafilm, poke holes in the parafilm using a needle, and place the glass pipettes in a 60°C oven until they are dry. This takes a few days.



Buffers Used for Acid Washing Injection Pipettes

Sulfuric Acid:Nitric Acid    1:1 (v/v) Sulfuric Acid:Nitric Acid (CAUTION! see Note #1)
 

 

Washing Pipettes Reagents and Buffers

 

  • Nitric Acid
  • Sulfuric Acid
  • Glass Capillary Tubing
  • Travenol H2O

Note on Protocol Method

1. CAUTION! This Sulfuric Acid:Nitric Acid is a biohazard. Consult this agent's MSDS for proper handling instructions.
