Ok, I have some homework. I need to classify the lion. I've done that, their groups are: animalia, chordata, mammalia, carnivora, felidae, panthera, leo. But the real question is, how does it get classified into their groups? Why is it in each of those groups? Thanks!

Animalia: it moves around, doesn't depend on photosynthesis, uses oxygen. Chordata: has a spinal chord (vertebrae too) Mammalia: it bears live young and then it feeds them milk. Carnivora: it eats meat. Felidae: It's a cat Panthera: It's a fairly big, agile cat that stalks prey, and has other features that panther-type cats have. Also, it likes death metal (j/k that's Pantera) Leo: It's a lion!

They are big fearsome cats that roar. Known for their violent nature towards outsiders who invade their territory. Leo the Lion is a star sign in astrology. They are King Of The Jungle and have energy and aggression.

Lions (Panthera Leo. African Lion - Panthera Leo leo) constitute one of the four big cat species. The other big cats, or roaring cats, being the tiger, the jaguar and the leopard. (some people are of the opinion that puma and snow leopard should also be considered as 'big cats'). Lions are unique in the cat family because of social life-style (groups are called 'pride') and because of pronounced sexual dimorphism. Sexual dimorphism means that the males look different than the females. Male lions sport a mane while the females don't. There is an exception to this rule, though. The male lions of Tsavo have very thin or no mane at all. Lions are different from other cats in one more way - they have a tuft at the end of their tails while the other cats don't. More often than not, lionesses in a pride do the hunting. The male lion's chief role is to protect the pride against other male lions.

The term "king of the jungle" is incorrectly attributed to the lion. They don't live in the jungle. They inhabit the savanna. The term should be changed to "king of the savanna", don't you think?
