Having trouble with Breeding zebrafish
Our Toxicology Lab has an aquatic habitat with flow through that we generally keep our adult zebrafish in until we want to breed. Then we put them in the MEPS unit that collects the eggs. This is a great system when they spawn but I cannot get them to spawn frequently enough. We have around 50 adults. We need around 1200 embryos. So I ordered more fish, around 500. However these fish will not spawn for the life of me. I need help!
They are at the correct temperature. Getting extra nutritious food such as brine shrimp, mysids, dry food and otohym (some Japanese fish food product). I am doing everything including playing Al Greene practically. I increase my production with my original breeders by swapping them out from the MEPS and Ahab unit so they would spawn more but the new fish just wont spawn at all. So my new plan is to put all my original fish together. Get them spawning. and then "train" the new fish by slowing adding a few to the original spawning fish. I am hoping this works.
Does any one have any suggestions. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
