Greetings and thank you for raising this issue,
I agree with all the respondents whose messages you posted. I therefore
think that you should definitely alert the zfin people to the benefits of
modifying the forum as suggested.

The confocal listserv, which has ~ 1500 members, and has
been running for about 10 years, is a "reply all" style list:

all replies go automatically to the entire list and so you get
a threaded discussion on each topic.

I like it and might suggest this for the zf newsgroup, unless it
would result in too much spam. On the confocal list, you can
elect to get a daily digest (one email a day) rather than get
each email as it comes in. I like and use the daily digest
mode.
