Default Open Position -Senior Animal Care Supervisor (Aquatics)



VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY
Senior Animal Care Supervisor

Vanderbilt University, Division of Animal Care (DAC) will be opening a
new state of the art zebra-fish facility with a 40,000-tank capacity in the
winter of 2004. The Senior Animal Care Supervisor position will be
responsible for the daily operation of the zebra-fish facility. Daily
responsibilities include the coordination of personnel activities,
sanitation and supplies, and monitoring the status of equipment and
facilities. Other duties involve orienting new animal care personnel to
institutional and DAC policy and procedures. Interacting with other
DAC staff, faculty, and research personnel is essential to clear
communication, excellent customer service, and compliance with
regulatory standards.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in zebra-
fish husbandry, specifically experience with zebra-fish housing systems
including daily operation and trouble-shooting of equipment, water
quality analysis, and oversight of maintenance responsibilities.
Experience with more traditional animal species is desirable but not
required.

A bachelor's degree or the equivalent plus supervisory experience and
AAALAC certification is preferred. A working knowledge and
experience with USDA regulations, PHS animal welfare standards, and
AAALAC guidelines on the humane care and use of laboratory animals
is needed. Experience with the use of a personal computer and
familiarity with software programs such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint,
and MS Excel are desirable.
