Why the hell isn't stem cell research being funded?

Seriously.

It is being funded- all over the world. There is quite the race to see who can cash in on it. I personally am missing a few bits that I would dearly love to have replaced through such a scientific miracle. I'd be willing to pay a tidy sum to get teeth, for example.

Religion still plays a major role in government and politics.

The world isn't quite overpopulated, and those embryos that are used in stem-cell research may some day be viable lives. And you never know, people might one day forget how to reproduce and we may need those embryos to keep the human race alive.
