Should we research the use of stem cells to cure disease? It?s true that stem cells were most commonly taken from unborn fetuses, but if we get the stem cells from a mothers placenta, still births, and umbilical cords, would it still be a good idea to use them to cure diseases like cancer?

Certainly- it would make sense. Organs could be cloned and the need for transplants would be gone. The problem is that the religious right - the ones that get money from the drug company lobbies to get elected- want to squash that because it would change how these people make money. Meanwhile the entire population wouldn't suffer from diabetes, cancer, heart and lung disease....very lucrative for these drug companies ..etc. They are such selfish, self -righteous b*stards and most of them call themselves right to lifers!! There are other ways of obtaining stem cells.

I think it's a good idea, I think what gov't are afraid of is women aborting children and selling the fetuses on the black market. There are some people who have absolutely no moral or ethics and would do exactly that. Isn't it sad how, so few, can turn something with such potential for good, into something we are afraid to do, because of what those few might do for their own personal gain. What a sad world we live in.

Yes. There has already been too many abortions here in America now even more babies are being conceived only to lose their lives as well. Many animals are born just to die so we can eat them, and now we are considering doing the same to innocent children. It is our responsibility to explore other options other than embryonic stem cell. An embrio is considered to be an unborn child that exist between the stages of emplantation in the womb and two months. A two month old embryo has distinct features of a human being such as eyes, ears, mouth, arms, legs and internal organs; embryonic stem-cell research is an effort to grow and harvest these types of tissue. I believe that this is morally WRONG.
