Default Since Christians are not against non-embryonic...

...stem cell research, why are there still detractors...? to this research? Why do they insist upon doing embryonic stem cell research? Are we supposed to do scientific research by any means necessary - even if it dehumanizes us. What is wrong with a more ethical approach?

It is amazingly apparent from the four posts already, that no one even bothered to go the the sites on non-embryonic stem cell research. Guess they must know everything already.

The potential benefits of this technology outweigh the bad ethics that could be involved.

Adult stem cells only self-replicate; that is, they only make clones of themselves.

Embryonic stem cells can become any of the 200 different kinds of cells in the human body; as such, they are a potential source for regenerative medicine and tissue replacement after injury or disease.

Fetal stem cells are the best. It is unbelievably asinine to object to using stem cells that will never be babies!

Because they want to have a reason to put down Christianity.

Because allowing embryonic stem-cell research could give a positive spin to abortion. And no one should justify throwing away a baby.

No, we shouldn't justify the means by the ends.

Nothing is wrong with a more ethical approach, and we should constantly seek out the ethical approach to scientific research dealing with the human person so as to safeguard its dignity.

By the way, I heard that they have found stem cells in amnionic fluid which are not embryos and are just as versitile as embrionic stem cells.

It's one thing to donate your own body to science but something else to donate someone Else's body. Under what guise is killing ok? Because they feel no pain? Because they are unaware? That would mean it's ok to gas someone while they sleep. Same logic? Why is one person less a person than another? There is no deifinitive answer for that. The only reason this is being considered is because one person thinks his or his loved ones suffering is more important than the one they are killing. They know it and simply had chosen to overide their conscience. And it is Jehova's witnesses that are against blood transfusions not Christians.

Some Christians are against blood transfusion, but not all... I think it's the squeaky wheel syndrome. I'm against embryonic stemcell research, but it may be a slippery slope/can of worms. I work in the biotech industry and we work with adult stemcells.

No one is killed Edward, if Im not mistaken they use rest embryos created making test tube babies. These embryos would never have been implanted anyway. If you classify an embryo as a human being, then yes I can undertand you have a problem with this. But then you should also have a problem with keeping these embryos frozen
