Internship

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone could help me clarifying some issues concerning the internships after graduation.
In my case I am a Master student, I will soon graduate, afterwards I want to work somewhere for lets say 6-9 months, gain experience and then start a PhD.
I know about these internships that are offered in job seeker sites but most of these concern people who are affiliated with University and are presently students which is not my case. Most of the intersnhips are offered by pharma-companies.
Because I am interested in research, it would be better for me to find a research institute. Do you think I can apply to a lab, just saying I want to work for some time there or do you know whether this is a practice and not an exceptional case? Also If anyone has some tips how to find such an intern, I would be grateful.
