Default tranfecting HL-1 cells (cardiomyocytes)

This is a relatively high maintenance cell line that acquires a 'beating' cardiac myocyte phenotype when near confluence. At issue is when to transfect -- should I wait until the phenotype of interest (beating) is present even though confluence is at ~90-95%? Or, would it be best to plate and then transfect shortly after (within 6-12 hours) on a 6 well plate when confluency is ~60-70%?
