Default cell viability before RNA extraction

hi all,
a basic question, for RNA extraction from cell lines, should the viability of the cells in culture should be above a certain limit, say for eg,above 70% or something like that.As i have added drugs to my cell line, the viability from 80% went down to 40% viability in 24 hours so i decided not to extract the RNA.
Thanks

You can extract the RNA whenever you like e.g. fossils but because the drug you added appears rather toxic to your cells this will continually alter the specific mix of transcripts present at the given point of time you decide to perform your extraction procedure.

[tip - invent a drug delivery schedule and perform a time-series analysis on your cell line with the aid of formalin or paraffin].
