Default mRNA question

Ok I have the following strand -
CTTTTTAGAGGAAAA ATG CTA ATT TTT TCT CCC CTT TAC GAA ATT CTA ATA GTA AAA AAC CAC TTC .....
I have separated the protein coding parts to make it easier.
So The first chunk part - is that the Shine dalgarno sequence?
Also If the GTA is taken out
what will happen to the amount of mRna transcibed? will it increase decrease etc.
what about the overall size of the mRNA molecule?
increase decrease stay same
The amount of protein translated will decrease wont it?
the no. of amino acids in the protein translated from the mRNA will also decrease wont it?

I'm just a bit confused, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Default Re: mRNA question

well
the Shine Dalgarno sequence is following
GGAGG, that is usually present 5-9pb upstream of start codon, there is A instead of G, but we can consider it as Shine Dalgarno Seuqnce or SD sequence. and the difference of bp is 4 here.
if you remove the ATG that is start codon in the mRNA sequence then most probably translation will not happen because the first Amino acid that is encoded is Formyl-Methioneine in case of prokaryotes and Methioneine in case of eukaryotes. and translation begin from this sequence. so if this sequence is not there then translation will not happen and so no protein.
but if the same sequence is present elsewhere in mRNA, then translation might happen but very less, as compared to translation from first start codon. and if this case then the protein will be short.
but most probably translation will not happen if you remove the start codon as it is very much important for translation mechinary to work.

regards
aftab
