This seminar discusses the application of proteomics approaches to the discovery of biomarkers in cancer research. Daniel W. Chan, PhD, is Director of the Clinical Chemistry Division and the Center for Biomarker Discovery at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Johns Hopkins University. This seminar is part of the RCMI Seminar Series held at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. The video is a production of the RCMI Center for Information Architecture in Research. The RCMI Program at the Medical Sciences Campus is funded by grant G12RR03051 from the National Center for Research Resources, National Institutes of Health.

As an update to the lecture, the FDA has approved a biomarker-based test that Dr. Chan helped develop.

In September, the FDA approved the first proteomics-based in vitro diagnostic multivariate index assay (IVDMIA) for ovarian cancer: Vermillion’s OVA1 test (bit.ly/4PFjB9).

OVA1 includes four novel protein biomarkers that were discovered and validated using the SELDI platform, a high-throughput biomarker discovery and protein-profiling tool. The SELDI platform enabled Vermillion to complete a 600-sample validation study in less than six months. Other technologies take the same time to screen 10–15 samples.

Hi,
can u give m an idea regarding cancer biomarkers and its related projects.
A shoort project tht can be finsed within 6 mnths as an mphill project using bioinformatics tools.
