First of all, are you a graduate student going for you PhD? If so, then you should go to your thesis advisor for help on this. If you are an undergrad planning to go into this line of research, then you should go to a professor who does molecular biology and ask him or her this question. He or she might be able to direct you towards someone who does research in that particular field and who might be able to answer your questions (the main one which should be "what projects could I propose that others with more experience and funding aren't already doing")

Hi, I am an assistant at a biomarker discovery research lab. We used basic proteomics tools---gels, ELISAs, Western blots, but now are going into Maldi-TOF MS and ESI-MS/MS---much better tools for biomarker work. I have tons of information and protocols and proteomics literature---and a good background on all of these just from memory. Let me know where you'd like to start.
