Well in theory, yes.

You've got to keep in mind though that they'll probably use one genome to construct this 'first proteome' and that won't give you all proteins in the human species - just all the proteins in that particular person. No doubt we'll have very many in common but its a much less impressive feat.

Its kind of like when they said they'd sequenced the human genome. They'd sequenced just one genome (and they didnt even finish that but thats another story) we could ask who it was, for all I know the information is widely available.

So, to reiterate, the human proteome in theory will be all proteins produced by human DNA, while the first 'human proteome' announced by some biotech corporation will fall short of this maximum proteome but I couldn't tell you by how much.

True, but it is more complex than this.

The term Proteome is a quite modern concept which aims to describe the entire complement of proteins in a given biological organism or system at a given time. A cellular proteome is the collection of proteins found in a particular cell type under a particular set of environmental conditions.
The study of the proteome is called Proteomics and requires knowledge of the structure of the proteins in the proteome as well as the functional interaction between the proteins.
