Directed in 1971 by Robert Alan Weiss for the Department of Chemistry of Stanford University and imprinted with the free love aura of the period this short film continues to be shown in biology class today. It has since spawn a series of similar funny attempts at vulgarizing protein synthesis. Narrated by Paul Berg 1980 Nobel prize for Chemistry.

Question Recombinant Protein Expression Systems

Hey!
Which are the best recombinant protein expression systems for generation of
Antibodies?
Enzyme activity?

thanks

Default Re: Recombinant Protein Expression Systems

Hey Domba,
I guess it depends what you want to do with the protein as you mention.

The best system for keeping post-translational modifications / folding of the native protein ie ENZYME ACTIVITY would be a eukaryotic system such as yeast, or more preferrably insect (bacculovirus), or even better a mammalian system.

The best system for antibody production would be the bacterial (easy to grow) however inclusion body purification may be a problem.

Seriously, I would go with Yeast as you can tag your protein to be expressed in the media, and therefore you can just collect media and keep your yeast producing protein.
Dont forget to tag your protein and also allow cleavage of the tag. Copper or smaller tags are better than bigger tags.

Cheers
