| Hi all! Proteins are digested prior to shotgun mass spectrometry on a state-of-the-art LTQ Velos tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS). Data is analyzed by up to four different search algorithms. Iterative searches are performed to maximize sequence coverage of identified proteins. This method is capable of identifying over 1,000 proteins in a complex mixture, however, sequence coverage will improve as the number of proteins decreases or enrichment of a set of proteins increases. Protein Characterization can include searches of: - custom sequences, - post-translational modifications (including known, previously characterized modifications), - known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), - unexpected amino acid point mutations.
