What is a prof doc? post doc?

I have to fill out this application form, and I'm not sure what each of these means. Are they higher than a doctorate?

Yeah. You usually do a post-doc after your PhD.

Good luck with your application :)

A postdoctoral fellow is a sad little creature that emerges from a lengthy gestation of 4-7 years in a dark damp laboratory or cubical where they've undergone a metamorphosis of sorts in graduate school. Now sensitive to natural light, newly emerged postdocs may hiss and recoil at the sun :shakehead:. Without a middle management structure to the modern research lab, these newly awarded PhDs will retreat running and screaming back into the laboratory  and endure more mental abuse for lousy pay. This period following their doctorate degree serves as a purgatory, or holding period, until the hands of higher powers select them for a greater purpose :ufo:. This odd behavior of the postdoc is most likely due to lack of memory past their undergraduate degrees... Poor little things, they don't know it can be better.

Hahaha... I'm just kidding,

A postdoc, or postdoctoral fellow, is a job position commonly held by individuals immediately following their PhD degree. They usually last 2-3 years and are considered training positions. The idea, is they they give young scientists time to publish papers and apply for grants so that they can become more competitive for funding and faculty positions in their career.

cheers

Well, It's not a degree at all. It's a job.

The first term means next to nothing--it's merely someone who possesses a doctorate degree who holds the rank of Professor. So what?
"Post doc" refers to a course of study, usually a grant to carry on specific research AFTER achieving a Ph.D.

More important, the context of your question makes no sense. Just what sort of "application" are you filling out here? If you don't understand either of these terms, you have no business filling out an application to either be a professor or apply for a postdoctoral grant. Just what the h*ll is going on here?

Hi,
As far as I am concerned,
Postdoc:- Postdoctoral research is academic or scholarly research conducted by a person who has completed his or her doctoral studies, normally within the following five years. It is intended to further deepen expertise in a specialist subject, including necessary skills and methods.
Profdoc:- Prodoc is a Scandinavian based provider of healthcare information technology, serving medical offices, hospitals and laboratories with IT solutions. Profdoc was bought by the German company Compugroup in June 2008.
Thanks.
