| Hi Please can someone clear up my confusion abut degeneracy Consider a particle trapped in a cubic box of length say L. The wavefunction Psi is specified as Psi(n1,n2,n3)=Asin(n1*pi*x/ L)sin(n2*pi*x/L)sin(n3*pi*x/L)exp(-E(n1n2n3)t/h_bar ) When n1=n2=n3=1 the books say that the degeneracy is 0 - Yet when n1=1 n2=1 n3=2 the degeneracy is 3 WHY!!!!. Hope someone out there can clear up my confusion. Many Thanks Harvey |
