| This post covers two topics: finding/ building a cloud chamber with thermoelectric cooling and a cloud chamber based on non dry ice cooling, such as using a rubber bulb. The first part of the post will inquire about a thermoelectric based cloud chamber. I am trying to find or, prefereably, build a cloud chamber that uses thermoelectric/ peltier cooling instead of dry ice. I am a hobbyist, so cost is an issue which is why I prefer to DIY. The closest devices I have been able to find so far are ready made and DIY here, respectively: [Only registered users see links. ] [Only registered users see links. ] In the former case, expense is the deterrent; in the latter, I find the instructions too vague to pursue and it appears they had much difficulty getting it to work. For a time, I thought an ultrasonic humidifier, since it easily creates mist, might serve as a cloud chamber with modification but it appears that isn't the case since supercooling is one of the requirements. Therefore, in summary, I'm either looking for a cost conscious thermoelectric cloud chamber or easy to follow plans to build one myself. If anyone has information in this regard, thank you in advance. I am also looking into an expansion cloud chamber, which uses a rubber bulb or a similar project using a "canteen": [Only registered users see links. ] [Only registered users see links. ] However, from what I understand, these two aforementioned examples will allow particles tracks to be visible for a very short period of time ~1-2 seconds and I desire something longer than that (having not built either of them, I don't know how long the tracks would last). I would appreciate any information on these projects also. Once again, thanks in advance, Will Holden |
