trisHcl or just Tris base

Hi everyone,
I would like to know what is the diference using TrisHCL or Tris (just like that) to prepare 1M TRIS solution. So what I heard is that you don't have to use a solution of HCL to get the pH that you want. If someone have a recipe using TRISHCL please let me know

Thanks

I think it really depends on what pH you really want...

Hello,
I need pH 8 but I think you use less HCL to reach that pH..Right?

Hi mcordero,

Yes, pH8 requires less HCL to reach that pH. Just calculate the total amount of water you need to add to the powder to get the concentration that you want first. Then, add half the amount of water to the powder and add HCL slowly and measure the pH until it reaches 8 before topping up the volume to the total amount of water you need to get the desired concentration.

I needed pH 7.4 once and it took a considerable amount of HCL.
