Smile PCR eco-friendly gels

Does anybody have a good receipe for using eco-friendly gels other than EB to share? I saw a few posts talking about Sy-orange, but I do not know the recipe.
Thanks

Cintia

Hello,
Agarose is pretty eco-friendly as far as gels (it is made from seaweed I think).

EB stands for ethidium bromide which visualizes the gel however is toxic and mutagenic.
If you don't stain the gel with EB, and use SYBR orange to stain instead (i have used it in the past and its pretty good), you can get visualization of the bands.

You have to buy SYBR orange, its a bit more expensive although worth the extra bit of money to save the environment and less hazard, easier to work with etc.

It would be an eco friendly gel and safe for handling although wear gloves just in case.

Cheers!

Hello!

I use EB at concentration is 0.5µg/ml. If I use SYBR orange, should I use the same concentration? Where can I buy it from?

Thanks!!

Cintia
