Deletion of Dtr gene in a plasmid

Hi,

In a given donor you delete a Mpf (mating pair formation) tra gene and mate it with a recipient which has a mutation in it. It can't complement it, however when the donor plasmid lacks a Dtr Mpf it can complement the recipient, Why??

Anybody has an idea?

Is it possible that just by formation of the Pilus without Dtr tra genes something can be transferred ?

Thanks in advance
