Default Fixative time for acrylamide protein gels

Does anyone know if the time an acrylamide protein gel (for either 1DE or 2DE) spends in fixative has any bearing on how hard it is to work with the the protein later on (for in-gel digestion etc.). Most protocols recommend about 30-60 minutes, but if convenient I have often left gels in fixative overnight or even over weekends. Am I compromising my extraction later on?
Thanks

Sorry guys, in exploring this forum set-up, I have discovered that this is the wrong place to post this topic - you guys are DNA people.
I'll post this over in Proteomics.
Cheers
