| I am having trouble streaking out. I am working with contaminated cultures of Cronobacter sakazakii and am supposed to create pure cultures. So I need to get single colonies on my plates but the organism is growing like a spreader, creating a kind of layer on the agar and do not produce any distinguishable colonies at all. If any one has an idea about whats going on, plz let me know |

| You may add motility inhibiting substances to your agar base. These depend on the microorganism, but in cases of Pseudomonas and Enterobacter this may be addition of NaCl or novobiocin. Antibiotics may inhibit bacterial motility, depending on how motility is controlled on molecular level. Of course the antibiotics you choose can't totally inhibit the growth of your bacteria. Try to look at the references - you may find some hints in articles. |
