Question dsRNA viruses and RNAi

Hi
as we know that DICER enzyme act on dsRNA and make it siRNA by breaking it, i want to know why Dicer did not cut the dsRNA viruses as we know that they are lot of examples of dsRNA viruses and how they replicate inside the host that have dicer in it to cut the dsRNA.

Regards
aftab ahmad

Default Re: dsRNA viruses and RNAi

One model says that Dicer and the RNAi machinery may have evolved in order to combat dsRNA viruses, so the viruses, in turn, have been evolving to foil Dicer. See, for example, this paper in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, and the Wikipedia article. Google brought up a bunch more.
