If someone in my lab didn't know what they were doing I would hope they would go to my PI or one of the older grad students and ask them... if you're just starting research then they can't expect you to know everything and it'll be a good reflection on you if you ask questions and can listen well and retain what they tell you.

That said, midi and maxi preps are simply protocols used to get lots of DNA (in this case, your plasmid). Electroporation is one way to get a plasmid into E. coli in order to get lots of DNA. About the other components of your electroporation mixture, I have no clue.
