| There is a fear that health insurance companies will demand that potential policyholders submit test results or themselves to testing for disorders and diseases that are genetically based and costly to provide therapy or support medically in some way. The ability to detect disorders often precedes the ability to find solutions to these problems in a low-cost manner. An SNP by itself does not suggest disorder or disease: after all, the alleles for brown and blue eyes are essentially SNPs on a grand scale. No one individual's genome is the absolute determinant of what is healthy variation or what is potentially a disease or disorder. |
