Depends on the lab... when starting up buy ex-demo kit and make sure it's supported locally (you will quickly find that some these 'bargains" on second-hand equipment websites are no longer supported or have expensive back-to-base repairs). Scour the web for news of 'labs closing' for some real bargains! A bit mercinary but one labs misfortune is another gain (you can usually get some staff at the same time!). If you want help then just ask as I have been a lab manager and an an equipment specialist for nearly 18 years!

Hi Kiki, if you're looking to buy PCR, imaging and molecular biology system. Bio-rad does some great real time PCR and imaging systems. tThe software on these systems are fantastic and the PCR machine is moduler you can therefore use it for 96 well, 384 well or even robotic systems for highthrough put. For further information drop me a line on here and I can send you my details.

If I were to set a lab right now I would ask for this: - A class II hood - A thermal cycler - A centrifuge with interchangeable rotors and buckets (for plates, 15 and 50 ml tubes, refrigerated) - A microcentrifuge (refrigerated) - An incubator - A vortex - Shackers (orbital and rotating) - Two or more pippete sets - Electrophoresis equipment (chambers, transiluminator, etc) - A computer (at least one) - Fridges (4, -20, -80 ºC) - A water bath - Microscopes (optical and inverted) - A plate reader - Etc But I'm not, so I'm just daydreaming right now

When buying aspiration pumps for the class II's make sure you get one that doesn't have stainless steel parts. SAM12/14's were originally designed as surgical pumps and the Virkon/Klorsept can rapidly degrade the stainless components. Buy one that has PTFE components and it will last a lot longer! The Biovac 106 from Ilmvac is the one that seems to last the longest. -80's - Heat rejection (+ power consumption) is something to consider (especially if you work in a lab with NO or very little air-con). There is a new Freezer from New Bruswick called teh HEF (HIGH- EFFICIENCY FREEZER) that uses a quarter of the power of some of its rivals (to put this in context that equates to 1,727 tonees of CO2 per year compared to 7,500 tonnes of some other well-known brands!). There are moves to charge individual departments for their annual energy consumption so stay ahead of the game and start thinking 'green' right now! :-) PCR's - I agree the Biorad PTC series is a good Thermal cycler and the ABi Veriti seems to be taking hold of late. Only one downside on the Veriti - the block is fixed (but if that isn't an issue for you then its a great little machine). More tips later - I have to go and make a cup of tea!

Hi friends, ![]() Conducting higher level research requires advanced equipment. While buying chemistry lab equipment for science laboratories. Buying from a CCR-certified vendor ensures standard laboratory equipment at reasonable prices. Buy from Masssupply.com to save both time and business process without spending any additional cost. Thanks and Regards. Levitsky hawlk ________________ Cole-parmer: Masssupply.com
