Dear Friends, I am in the process of purchasing a real time PCR machine. Right now I am debating which one to choose. I have two machines in mind: the CFX96 from BioRad and the RealPlex 4 from Eppendorf. Does any one have any impressions, comments, opinions, reviews that could help me in to decide? Thank you so much! All the best Raul

Both BioRad and Eppendorf make good machines, I'd go with BioRad.

But why the opinion about BioRad equipment wasn't justified? I personally have never used BioRad real time system, so I don't know much about it but I would use some of others knowledge ;-) I use LightCycler 2.0 and 480 by Roche and my friend uses Eppendorf system (don't remember the exact model) and both are reliable and easy to work with and have the possibility of automation.

Indeed the BioRad choice was not justified but I would guess it is a personal preference rather than a choice based in techical performances of the machine itself. Trying to use other's knowledge is exactly why I signed up for this forum hoping I would have lots of comments and opinions of users like yourself. Thanks for your comment though. Raul

The Biorad is more expensive but it gives very good data and tight replicates, and seems to be more sensitive because ct value come up earlier. Both software is easy to use and both having gradient. YuWei

the same problem of setting up the lab in Russia )) at 1st you'd better to see the experience from other similar labs, then you choose the vendor and begin discussing pro et contra for each equipment position - yeah, it's really time-consuming task! Wish you success!
