| I was working with a nude mice xenograft model today. I was collecting the tumor, spleen, and bone marrow (from the femur). I wasn't paying attention, and held the razor blade upside down, and sliced my finger! My boss and the Environmental Health and Safety department said it should be fine, that the mice that they buy are very clean, no diseases, and are nude mice. There were no compounds treated on this mice, because I was collecting from the untreated control xenograph control. This happened on the 4th mice, so I had already collected some tumors. I only used the razor blade on the femur. The razor blade was never used directly on the tumor. However, I did use the same tweezer to handle the tumor, spleen and femur. It is my understanding that xenograph tumors are human cancerous cells (correct me if I'm wrong). And my bigger question is, what should I do about this? I washed my cut well, and used ethanol to wipe it. Is it possible that a couple tumor cells could have contaminated the razor blade when it sliced into me, thus entering my body?? And what can be done about this? There's no way for them to check this. Any help would be appreciated. The idea of a cancerous cell entering my finger is a big issue, right? Thanks! |
