Default 16S as a DNA extraction or PCR control?

What are your thoughts on the use of 16S as a DNA extraction control or as a PCR control? I know that it is ubiqutous and therefore not a measurable control but due to its ease of use and accessibility, it is often used as a DNA extraction control.

I disagree and was wondering if there was other information to support not using it as an extraction control.

Thanks
