Question Genetics Question

Hi
If two alleles are there, one is dominant and one is recessive. when these two alleles come in heterozygeous form, then what happens to recessive allele? is its expression is blocked at transcriptional level or protein is also formed from it but that is not functional.
need discussion over it so plz do forward your suggestions.

regards
aftab

Default Re: Genetics Question

All of the scenarios you mentioned are possible for recessive alleles. They can either encode nothing, encode nonfunctional proteins, have weak promotors, encode a product that is obcured by the dominant alleles product.....

Consider the classic example of dark red (homozygous dominant) and white (homozygous recessive) flowers. If the recessive allele expresses a white pigment then the heterozygote will be pink (mix of both allele products). If it does not then the heterozygote will be deep red and look just like the homozygous dominant.
