Default Percentage and/or MFI

Dear colleagues,
We have analyzed some NK cell receptors entire PBL and NK cells after in vitro cytokine treatments. We have expressed receptors in percentage as well as mean fluorescence intensity (MFI). Is it optimal or not that these parameters (% and MFI) have the same direction? If not, what could be the reasons and explanation? Furthermore, is there a connection between % and MFI or does MFI influence % or contra?
Thank you very much in advance
