Epigenetics Video - Ghost in your Genes

An interesting idea. How do you suppose changes in DNA would propagate throughout the entire human body? Suppose that gene expression is influenced via neurotransmitters in the brain; how would thoughts that change your DNA also propagate changes to the gamete production center? Surely not all changes would be able to propagate losslessly, right?

Greetings to everyone.

I'm a science teacher. I have some idea what epigentics is about and I have some questions.

Am I wrong in thinking that epigentics is the means for DNA to respond to the environment? Shoudn't epigenetics give suceeding generationns an advantage rather than a disadvantage? Take for example the children of 911 survivors. If the mothers were exposed to extreme stress then shouldn't it be that certain genes in their children be switch on or off to enable the children to adapt better to stress? Instead the opposite is happening. Isn't this counter productive with evolution?
