| Karmella-- T(2;4)ast[v] consists of two parts. One "half" of the translocation has the second chromosome centromere and the other has the fourth chromosome centromere. Shown pictorially, the two chromosomes are 2Lt--------21E2|101--------4cen----4Lt 4Rt------101|21E3-------2cen-----------2Rt Where "2Lt" denotes the telomere of 2L, "4Rt" denotes the telomere of 4R, etc. (Believe it or not, there really is a tiny left arm of the 4th chromosome!) Each "half" of a translocation is called a translocation segregant and the "halves" of T(2;4)ast[v] shown above are called Ts(2Lt;4Lt)ast[v] and Ts(2Rt;4Rt)ast[v], respectively. In the stock, Ts(2Rt;4Rt)ast[v] segregates from the In(2L)Cy, In(2R)Cy, al[2] Cy[1] L[4] sp[2] chromosome and Ts(2Lt;4Lt)ast[v] segregates from a normal 4th chromosome, based on the homology of the centromeric regions. The stock genotype could be rewritten as Ts(2Rt;4Rt)ast[v]/In(2L)Cy, In(2R)Cy, al[2] Cy[1] L[4] sp[2]; Ts(2Lt;4Lt)ast[v]/+ Hope this helps, Kevin __________________________________________________ ________ Kevin Cook, Ph.D. Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center Department of Biology [Only registered users see links. ] Jordan Hall 142 Indiana University 812-856-1213 1001 E.
