Biologist position opening

A Biologist position is available immediately in a newly established
Functional Genomics Unit in the Laboratory of Experimental Gerontology at
National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, in Baltimore,
Maryland. The Biologist position is equivalent to a Research Scientist
position at NIH. The research focus of this new unit is to investigate
molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging and oxidative stress response by
using Drosophila melanogaster as the model organism. The projects will
employ genetics, genomics including gene profiling and cell biology
including confocal imaging techniques to address fundamental questions on
aging with emphasis on neuronal regulation of metabolism and lifespan. Major
responsibilities of this position include performing a variety of
experiments, maintaining computer database and performing other duties as
required in support of research in the above area. Applicants should be a
team player and have the ability to work independently and think critically
with skilled hands and sound judgment. Experiences in genetics, neural
biology and fruit fly work will be desirable. The successful applicant would
work in an exciting and young laboratory with the opportunity to assume a
supervisory role in the future.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. with strong background in genetics, molecular
biology or a related discipline.
