P element insertion site convention?

What's the convention for denoting the insertion site of a P element?
Given that insertion creates an 8-bp duplication:

A B C D E F G H [31-bp repeat] . . . . [31-bp repeat] A B C D E F G H

does one say that the insertion is at position A? position H? Elsewhere?
Thanks for any pointers -- I'm sure this is described online, but Google
hasn't been a great help.
