Hi, I wanted to know what Camera/Gel doc system is suitable to attain high quality images of an agarose gel? I have tried to use standard cameras that you can on the high street but find the image has a lot of 'noise'. I am looking to get pictures like the one attached....but at much higher resolution. Do I need a Full gel doc system or can I just get a camera?? Please help! Its a big investment to get a camera and I need to know which is the right one to get. Thanks!

Hello, the best systems i ever used (and i used A LOT) seem to be these type with the quick camera type and that printer type here: http://www.wolflabs.co.uk/UVIdoc_Gel...ion_System.htm I found digital cameras give a pretty good picture sometimes, however they are VERY SLOW especially when hooked up to any computer (VERY VERY SLOW)...also printing is a problem as even with a high quality inkjet it is quite slow and low quality (non glossy, wet it becomes mush etc) That UVIdoc type of camera setup prints out on glossy paper that you can easily scan cleanly (without ethidium etc) on a high resolution scanner and get really good documentation of your gels quickly. I hated the digital camera/software/computer setups for their slow start times, bad printing and other reasons. I couldnt find the one i used, but the UVidoc is basically identical to what i used but probably more expensive. Last edited by admin; 03-16-2008 at 02:02 AM.

These Kodak systems are quite good too I have used similar systems http://www.raytest.de/index2.html?/b...logic_200.html I have never used this one but looks like it can be used for tons of applications (obviously the cost would be much more): http://www.raytest.com/bio_imaging/p...ogic_2200.html
