Default During electrophoresis, gels that are run...

...with DNA samples should always have the following:? During electrophoresis, gels that are run with DNA samples should always have the following:
(1) an unamplified control lane (i.e., a reaction tube without any DNA sample); AND

(2) a lane with a DNA ladder.

a. What would be present in the unamplified control lane? What would you expect to see in that lane after the gel is run? Explain.

b. What is a DNA ladder? What would you expect to see in that lane after the gel is run? Explain.

c. Why would these two extra lanes be helpful when analyzing your gel?

(1) an unamplified control lane is a pure RNA without RT made. It serves to visualize genomic DNA contamination. If no contamination, nothing should be seen.

(2) a DNA ladder is a ladder made of 100 base pairs so you can better visualize your PCR products, according to the size. After the run, they should look like a ladder, with a band every 100 bp.
