It depends on what type of cell you are working with, the purity required, and the use for the isolated DNA. If you are a teacher and want to do this with a class I recommend, hot water plus raw wheat germ. Mix. Add liquid soap. Mix. Add isopropyl alcohol to form a top layer. DNA will separate though it's not cleaned up at all
