Before being used in translation, mRNA must be spliced. During splicing, exons are removed and the translateable introns that remain are spliced into a single strand of mRNA.

Where exactly the splicing does take place: inside of the nucleus or outside or on the membrane?

Hi
splicing take place inside the nucleus. mRNA forms inside the nuclus as pre mRNA, then it is spliced inside the nucleus and then matrue RNA move out of the nuclear membrance and goes to cytoplasm.

One point to add is that exons are EXPRESSED [via mRNA] whereas introns supposedly contain junk DNA.
