Hi is DNA Base Pairing Always GC AT? or can there sometimes be differences in DNA?

Default Re: DNA Base Pairing Always GC AT?

In general, yes it is always GC AT. This matching has to do with how the molecules fit together and a mismatch will cause a "bump" in the DNA. Usually when there is a mismatch it is done during copying, and one of the pair will be excised and replaced with the appropriate nucleotide. If the mismatch were to remain, it would be considered a bad mutation. Like something you would find in cancer cells.
