reusing Qiagen columns?

Has anyone tried to re-use Qiagen Maxiprep columns to save money? e.g. wash with water and equilibrate with high salt buffer?
cheers
Georg

Re: reusing Qiagen columns?

Depends on if you are using them for the same dna or not. I would not reuse them for different DNA samples due to contamination issues, but I have re-used them for the same samples.

I wouldn't reuse them. I discovered that much DNA can be left in the column after first extraction. Even if you wash the column are you sure it's clean enough?
Different issue is if you want to use them for training purposes. We sometimes use reused columns during first training with students when there is nothing to loose.
