| 1.How do you calculate magnification on a microscope? 2.Explain how to focus a microscope using the high power lens. Include any safety issues you need to be aware of. 3.Why is it important to keep a microscope covered when you’re not using it? |

| 1) Multiply your eyepiece power by your objective power. Example 10x Eyepieces with a 40x objective = 400x Final Magnification. (Assuming you are not using any auxiliary lens) 2) Focusing on high power is achieved by first focusing using the scanning lens (usually the 10x objective), then rotating to the high powered lens and using the fine focus. This is assuming you have a parcentered parfocal microscope with a correctly centered condenser. 3) Dust infringes upon lenses. It's always important to keep the cover on when not in use. It sounds pedestrian, but sometimes dust and other foreign matter can get in the most annoying places within your optical path. |
